MOVEMENT LITERACY PROGRAMS

DanKo believes that movement is an integral part of life. We believe that movement is essential to basic functions of the body, mind, and spirit. Movement is the key facilitator in the development and enhancement of knowledge. Our literacy programs are designed to develop and enhance the academic skills for students ages 2-adult. Our Literacy Programs are movement based and designed to teach literacy with an integrated approach.  

MOVEMENT LITERACY CLASS 

FRIDAY, JANUARY 22nd  |  5:30 - 7:30 PM 

Ready Set Kids - 284 Broadway, Arlington, MA 02474​


Ages 3 - 10 | Movement Literacy is a monthly workshop offered to kids.  This program is designed to develop and enhance literacy skills by using movement. This class is offered once a month for 2 hours on Fridays. The students will read stories, learn, and create movements & movement stories based on the reading selection. They will also engage in movement games that go with the theme of the reading.  The students will also be served dinner. 

$20 per child, $10 per each additional child. â€‹
** Space is limited registration is required in advanced.
 

KIDS: JR LITERACY (AGES 2 - 9) 

The Jr. Literacy Program is designed to allow students to develop their listening, reading, and writing comprehension by using movement with a variety of children’s stories. Students will read or listen to a story and a movement project or dance will be created to facilitate the understanding of the moral, lesson, or important concepts of the story.  This program is adaptable for students in Jr. 1 or Jr. 2 Literacy.  (Jr. 1 ages 2-5 and for students in Jr. 2 ages 6-9)

 

 

TWEEN & TEEN LITERACY (AGES 10 - 17)

The Tween & Teen Literacy Program has a similar layout to that of our Jr. Literacy Program. However, students will be encouraged in this program not only to develop their reading comprehension skills through movement and stories.  They will be exposed to more complex readings and will be able to facilitate understanding in small learning groups. They will also become the storyteller and will be able to write and create their own stories with the use of movement. (Tween Program ages 10-12 & Teen 13-17)  *This program is offered in 2-6 workshop series.  

MADRID BI-LINGUAL EXCHANGE PROGRAM 

Sponsored/ hosted by Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts.


Teachers and Administrators from Madrid participate in a four week Interdisciplinary and Integrated Program focused on the develop in English Skills for students in Elementary and Secondary Schools. The students take classes in CLIL a method for teaching English with an integrated and arts based curriculum. The students also take classes in Visual Arts, Drama, Music, and Movement/Dance. 


Owner, Katina McClain worked as the Movement/Dance Instructor & Specialist in the Program. She used movement to teach English Language and Literacy Skills. The students engage in a variety of movement, reading, and writing activities. 

 


ADULT LITERACY

This program has two tracks Adult Literacy 1 is the same as our Teen Literacy, with a larger focus on the creation of movement stories to aid in the comprehension of more complex literature. Adult Literacy 2 is a program if one wants to learn how to become an educator of Movement Literacy.  *This program is offered in weekly series from 1-4 weeks.
